Sunyani: Superintendent Eric Anaba, the Sunyani West Municipal Police Commander, has highlighted a concerning rise in substance abuse as a contributing factor to the increase in criminal activities within the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, Superintendent Anaba emphasized the necessity of a strong partnership between the police force and the Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) to address this issue. He urged the youth in the region to avoid engaging in drug use and substance abuse to prevent encountering legal troubles.
Superintendent Anaba provided this advice during a courtesy visit by personnel from the Sunyani West Municipal office of NACOB. The visit, led by the Narcotic Control Officer (NCO) Fidelia Ali Yamusah, aimed to strengthen ties between the police and NACOB. The delegation also visited the Sunyani West Directorate of Education and the Ghana-West African Programme to Combat AIDS and STI (WAPCAC) to further collaboration efforts.
Despite the challenges, Superintendent Anaba assured that crime is under control in Sunyani West, reiterating the police's commitment to tackling criminal activities in the area.
NCO Yamusah stated that the NACOB office has commenced intelligence gathering to address the growing drug issue. The establishment of the office aims to regulate and control narcotic drug use and prevent trafficking. She further explained that educational efforts on drug and substance abuse have been intensified on local media and will soon be expanded to schools.
