Alavanyo: Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, has inaugurated the 2026 Hohoe Municipal Inter Circuit Sports Festival in Alavanyo, emphasizing the importance of identifying and nurturing young talents. He highlighted the festival's role in promoting patriotism, discipline, and unity, noting that sports serve as a unifying tool for the nation, as demonstrated by the support for the National Football Team, the Black Stars.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Gunu urged stakeholders to develop innovative methods to enhance future events and achievements, questioning how identified young talents could excel at the national level. He encouraged stakeholders to focus on talent identification and promotion, ensuring these individuals contribute positively to their communities and the nation. He also advised competitors to maintain discipline. In support, Mr Gunu donated GH?5,000, along with three sets of jerseys and footballs for the top three emerging circuits.
The festival, themed 'Sports, the foundation of good health', features eight competing circuits, including Hohoe West, Hohoe East, Hohoe Central, Gbi-South, Alavanyo, Fodome West, Fodome East, and Wli/Gbledi. Participants will compete in events such as handball, football, netball, table tennis, and volleyball.
Mr Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo, Hohoe Constituency Member of Parliament, remarked on the peaceful nature of Alavanyo and Nkonya, which provided a conducive environment for the festival's success. He urged competitors and officials to avoid activities that could disrupt the event. Mr Tsekpo assured that his office and the Assembly had implemented plans to ensure the event's success and promised to support the sports needs of the Constituency.
Mr Victor K. Kovey, Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, noted that hosting the event in Alavanyo highlighted the peaceful environment conducive to sports development in the Municipality. In a display of commitment to fair play, Miss Miriam Koso and Madam Delase Hodienukpor swore oaths of sportsmanship on behalf of the competitors and officials, respectively.
