Bolgatanga: Mama Attrato II, the President of 'Queens of Legacy' in Ho and Queen of Ho-Dome, has called for a redefinition of the role of queen mothers in addressing the growing social challenges confronting young girls, particularly in schools. Speaking during an interaction with students at the OLA Senior High School (OLA SHS) at Ho, she expressed concern about the increasing cases of teenage pregnancies and the vulnerability of some girls to exploitation.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mama Attrato II emphasized the need for queen mothers to step in and offer mentorship to young girls. She stated the importance of educating girls, helping them discover their vision, and empowering them to focus on their future. Early mentorship, she noted, equips girls with confidence and awareness to resist individuals with ill intentions. Mama Attrato also appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to consider providing allowances to divisional chiefs and queen mothers to support their outreach efforts.
Mama Attrato urged parents to be more attentive to their daughters' needs, explaining that neglect could lead to susceptibility to external pressures and exploitation. She cautioned, "If parents do not take care of their girls, others may lure them with material things."
The Queens of Legacy had engaged with school authorities before the visit and collaborated with other queen mothers and women leaders undertaking similar mentorship programs. Mama Attrato expressed hope that more queen mothers would redefine their roles and actively mentor young girls.
Madam Benedicta Amata Mawunyo Agbezudor, the Headmistress of OLA SHS, welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation for the visit. She explained that the school regularly partners with credible organizations to provide career guidance and mentorship to students. She emphasized that the school carefully screens visiting groups to ensure their messages align with the school's values and faith-based principles.
The interactive session allowed students to share concerns and challenges faced both at school and home. The Queens of Legacy addressed the issues raised, offering guidance, encouragement, and practical advice to help the girls stay focused on their education and personal development. This engagement is part of ongoing efforts by the Queens of Legacy to mentor young girls, strengthen moral values, and promote responsible decision-making among students in the Ho municipality and beyond.
