Addis ababa: Lordina Mahama reiterated her commitment to the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD)'s #BuildingResilience campaign during the 30th OAFLAD Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to Ghana News Agency, the campaign aims to protect and empower women and girls in areas affected by climate change and conflict by improving access to essential services such as health and education, preventing gender-based violence, and promoting peace and climate resilience. Mrs. Mahama emphasized that when women and children are healthy, families become stronger and nations thrive.
She highlighted the contributions of the Lordina Foundation, which offers free health screenings and treatments to thousands of women, children, and the elderly. The Foundation has also constructed modern maternity and children's wards at Bole District Hospital, Nkoranza Municipal Hospital, and Bodom Health Centre, with another facility nearing completion at Asukawkaw.
Looking to the future, Mrs. Mahama stated that the Foundation will continue to empower women involved in small and medium-scale enterprises, aligning with government initiatives like the 24-Hour Economy and the newly established Women's Development Bank. "When we empower a woman economically, we empower an entire family and uplift an entire community," she remarked.
Additionally, Mrs. Mahama stressed the importance of education as a pillar of empowerment, noting that 40 underprivileged Junior High School girls are receiving support through the Merck Foundation's 'Educating Linda' Scholarship Programme. "Every girl we support becomes a leader, a change-maker, and a nation-builder," she said.
