Oti region: The Ghana Police Service has conducted three intelligence-led operations in the Oti Region, intercepting 1,696 compressed parcels of substances suspected to be narcotics and arresting seven individuals.
According to Ghana News Agency, a police statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. John Nchor, the Public Affairs Officer of the Oti Regional Command, detailed the operations. On February 13, a police team apprehended a Hyundai Atos Taxi with registration number VR188-16 on the Lekanti Kute road. During a search, they uncovered 48 parcels of suspected India hemp, leading to the arrest of the driver Emmanuel Yao, 40, and his mate Felix Emulator.
The statement further explained that on February 14, acting on intelligence, officers raided a location in Tsikata near Ahamansu. They discovered 166 compressed parcels wrapped in yellow masking tape, found in three bags and three sacks. Three suspects were arrested immediately, while a fourth suspect, Korsi Akpavi, managed to escape.
The police operation continued on February 15 when officers intercepted a Benz cargo truck with registration number GS3831-09 at Bodada. The truck was driven by Justice Nelson Amrado, with passenger Yussif Onaneye, 25. A search revealed a hidden modified compartment containing 1,482 parcels of suspected India hemp. The statement disclosed that Amrado attempted to bribe the officers with GHS80,000, which was rejected by the police.
The Police hierarchy in the Oti Region is actively pursuing Korsi Akpavi and has urged the public to provide information that would aid in crime prevention in the area.
