Techiman: Mr Gariba Marwan Abdul Rauf, head of the Blood Bank at Holy Family Hospital in the Techiman Municipality of the Bono East Region, has made an urgent appeal for blood donations from the local community. He emphasized the critical need to restock the hospital's blood bank to save lives.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Rauf highlighted that blood donation not only plays a vital role in saving lives but also provides donors with an opportunity to learn about their health conditions. He shared these insights during blood donation drives organized by the hospital in partnership with MTN Ghana. The events took place at Saint Francis Seminary Senior High School (SHS) in Buoyem and Atebubu SHS, coinciding with the 2026 Valentine's Day celebration.
Mr Rauf explained that voluntary blood donations help donors become aware of potential health issues, such as illnesses and complications, allowing them to seek appropriate medical advice. He expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana for their support, noting that the initiative would significantly alleviate the recurring acute blood shortages faced by the hospital.
Mr George Peter Baalabuuri, Senior House Master of Saint Francis Seminary and SHS, remarked that the blood donation events were beneficial, enabling students to understand their health status. He pointed out that awareness of their health conditions could empower students to make informed decisions about their lifestyles.
Mr Stephen Blewett, CEO of MTN Ghana, praised the donors for their generosity, describing blood donation as a powerful act of compassion. In his speech, he acknowledged the importance of the MTN 'Save a Life' blood donation exercises as a significant precursor to the company's 30th Anniversary celebration in Ghana. He reaffirmed MTN's commitment to addressing critical health needs in the country.
The blood donation events aimed to collect approximately 380 pints of blood for the hospital, addressing the pressing need for blood supplies.
