Adaklu: Mr Jerry Yao Ameko, the Adaklu District Chief Executive (DCE), has highlighted the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) as a key initiative of the National Democratic Congress administration. The program combines structured skills training with material support and certification, aiming to empower young people across the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Ameko made these remarks while presenting working tools to beneficiaries of the program on behalf of Mr Governs Kwame Agbodza, the Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Adaklu, at a ceremony in Adaklu Waya. The items presented included manual and industrial sewing machines, knitting machines, welding boots, and protective glasses for welders, distributed to 30 apprentices as well as master craftsmen and madams.
Mr Ameko emphasized that this presentation was part of the government's efforts to equip young people with employable skills, facilitating their transition into sustainable livelihoods. He noted that the provision of start-up tools aims to eliminate the structural barriers often faced by trained youth trying to establish themselves in their respective trades. This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of NAP, which focus on reducing youth unemployment, strengthening vocational and technical capacity, and improving inclusive economic participation at the district level.
He further mentioned that this donation is part of a series of similar efforts intended to benefit more youths in the future. Mr Ameko advised beneficiaries to make effective use of the equipment to enhance their economic empowerment.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support, noting that the tools would significantly boost their productivity and enable them to work independently after completing their training. They also praised President John Dramani Mahama for instituting the program, expressing hope that more youths would be trained and equipped with income-generating skills.
