Bowie: The Ghana Diaspora Political Action Committee (GHPAC-USA) has announced its endorsement of Maryland State Delegate Adrian Boafo in his campaign to represent Maryland's 5th Congressional District in Congress. Delegate Boafo is aiming to succeed longtime Congressman Steny Hoyer, who has also endorsed his candidacy.
According to Ghana Web, Delegate Boafo currently serves as an Assistant Majority Leader in the Maryland House of Delegates. His leadership roles and membership in multiple caucuses, including the Legislative Black Caucus and the Latino Caucus, reflect his influence on legislative strategy. He has served on the Economic Matters Committee, contributing to policies related to business regulation and labor standards.
Delegate Boafo's background in technology and information technology provides him with an understanding of digital infrastructure and cybersecurity. GHPAC-USA considers this expertise essential for addressing modern policy challenges. As a Ghanaian American, Boafo represents the African diaspora's growing political leadership in the United States. He is also the founder of the BlueGen PAC, an organization aimed at developing young, diverse leaders.
Adjoa Kyerematen of GHPAC-USA stated, "Adrian Boafo is prepared to serve from day one. He understands policy-making and how to deliver results for constituents." Kimberly Afoakwah expressed confidence in Boafo's ability to serve with integrity and purpose.
Delegate Boafo is known for his commitment to immigrant communities, authoring the ICE Breaker Act and advancing a policy agenda focused on immigrant rights, economic equity, and civil rights. His initiatives include the Fair Share for Maryland Act and measures to support low-income residents and workplace fairness.
Boafo expressed his gratitude for GHPAC-USA's endorsement, stating his commitment to building a district where all communities are represented and empowered. Maryland's 5th Congressional District is home to thousands of Ghanaian and Ghanaian-American residents.
GHPAC will host a Ghana Independence Celebration with Boafo on March 7th in Bowie, Maryland, to rally support for his campaign.
