Effutu: The Effutu Divisional Police Command has refuted media reports of fatalities and numerous injuries following a clash among youth groups in Sankro, a community within the Effutu Municipality, last week. ACP Ibrahim Opoku, Effutu Municipal Commander, stated in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that no deaths were reported during the incident.
According to Ghana News Agency, two individuals who sustained critical injuries are currently receiving medical care at hospitals in Cape Coast and Accra. ACP Opoku mentioned that a man named Emmanuel Bonney, known locally as Excoba, collapsed during the event, leading to false reports of his death by community members.
The police commander further disclosed that three individuals, including Excoba, have been brought before the Agona Swedru Circuit Court and are being held in custody until February 10, 2026. A firearm was recovered from the scene, and normalcy has been restored in the community and its neighboring areas.
ACP Opoku urged the public to assist the police by providing information about individuals identified in videos circulating on social media. He also advised the media to verify information with the police before disseminating it to the public.
