Kumasi: Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He positions himself as a leader ready to make sacrifices to unify the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
According to Ghana Web, Wontumi, who is the Ashanti Regional Chairman, announced his candidacy on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. He stated that his decision follows extensive consultations with party elders and his 'Maker,' emphasizing that it is driven by a need to guide the party through a critical period rather than personal ambition.
Wontumi highlighted the importance of vision, courage, and determination in the leadership role, stating that the NPP requires a leader who can stand firm and make difficult decisions. His candidacy signals a potentially intense contest for the party's top leadership position in the upcoming national executive elections.
