Accra: Etornam Vumadzi, a driver and Emmanuel Komlagah, were arrested on Friday, January 30, by the Volta North Regional Police Command, while transporting suspected narcotic substances from Gbi Godenu towards Togo.
According to Ghana News Agency, the arrest followed an intelligence-led operation.
Inspector Felix Kwao, the Volta North Regional Public Relations Officer, stated that the intelligence indicated a Toyota minibus with registration number GT-6592-19 was heading towards Togo with a consignment suspected to be narcotic drugs. A search conducted on the vehicle led to the retrieval of 18 sacks, each containing 36 yellow oval parcels, totaling 648 parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a third party, identified only as Joseph, attempted to offer the police team GHS150,000 as a bribe over the phone, while the suspects tried to pay GHS32,000 upfront. Inspector Kwao confirmed that all offers were rejected by the police officers. The suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigations and will be put before court to face the full rigours of the law.
