Keta: Keta Senior High Technical School in the Volta Region has officially commenced its 73rd Annual Inter-Houses Sports and Games Festival to promote physical fitness and prepare students for upcoming inter-schools' competitions. The five-day sporting festival was officially opened by the Headmaster of the school and began on Monday, January 26, 2026. It is expected to conclude on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the school's sports park.
According to Ghana News Agency, five houses-Quao House (Green), Fiawoo House (Blue), Abruquah House (Yellow), Kotoka House (Red), and Matanawui House (White)-are competing in various track and field events and indoor and outdoor games. The opening day was mainly focused on field events such as long jump, triple jump, high jump, javelin throw, shot put, and discus. Track events included the 1,500 metres, 800 metres, 400 metres, 200 metres, and 100 metres races, as well as 4—100 metres, 4—1,000 metres medley, and 4—400 metres relay heats.
Day Two of the festival will feature handball, netball, and table tennis, while Wednesday's schedule will focus on soccer and volleyball. Semi-finals and finals across various sporting disciplines are set for Days Four and Five, respectively.
The Head of the Physical Education Department, Mr. David Anumu Wormi, expressed confidence in this year's competition. 'The level of preparation and commitment shown by the students on the first day is impressive. We expect a very keen and competitive festival compared to previous years, with new records set as well,' he said. Some student-athletes also shared their excitement about the games, stating their determination to perform well for their houses.
The inter-house sports festival is a key annual event on the school's calendar, serving as a platform for talent identification and school unity while nurturing future athletes for the inter-school and zonal competitions. A Ghana News Agency assessment of activities on the opening day indicated a high level of commitment and discipline from school authorities and officiating officials, coupled with strong enthusiasm and active participation from the student body.
