Assembly Appeals for Urgent Support to Complete Abandoned Hospital Project

Lambussie: The Lambussie District Assembly is urgently appealing for support to complete its abandoned Agenda 111 hospital project, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery in the area. The project is currently over 70 percent complete but has been neglected, with no contractor present on-site since 2024. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Naawulle Ireneous Basingbie, the Lambussie District Chief Executive, made this appeal during a visit to the abandoned project site. The contracts for the project were awarded in 2022, but since being abandoned, construction materials have not been available on-site. The Agenda 111 hospital is one of many projects yet to be completed and utilized by the government to improve healthcare across the country. Mr. Basingbie emphasized that completing the project would enhance the assembly's efficiency and productivity in healthcare delivery within the district and beyond. The assembly is working diligently to ensure the project continues to provide effective healthcare services o nce completed. Alongside traditional leaders, Mr. Basingbie appealed to the government, through Upper West Region Minister Mr. Charles Lwanga Puozuing, to intervene and ensure the project's completion to improve district healthcare services. The completion of the project is expected to reduce unemployment and enhance healthcare delivery in the district. In an interview, Mr. Jerdu Bin-eranaa Nuhu, Lambussie District Health Director, highlighted the numerous challenges faced by the district's Polyclinic, which necessitate the urgent completion of the Agenda 111 facility. Mr. Nuhu pointed out that the clinic, serving as a major referral hospital for the district and parts of neighboring Burkina Faso, struggles with inadequate operational space, equipment, and staffing. The clinic's wards, laboratory, and specialized units lack sufficient space and are hampered by inadequate equipment, affecting laboratory and emergency healthcare services. He further noted that the clinic's administration is currently functio ning as a consulting room due to the absence of a dedicated administration block. Additionally, there are no specialist units such as Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT), Eye care, Anti-retroviral Therapy (ART), and mental health services. Completion of the Agenda 111 hospital facility would address these challenges, significantly improving healthcare delivery, patient safety, and confidentiality.
