NaCCA Denies Inclusion of LGBTQ-Related Contents into SHS Curriculum

Accra: The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has denied allegations of introducing LGBTQ-related content into Ghana's Senior High School (SHS) curriculum. It emphasized that no such content exists within the officially approved national curriculum used in SHS.

According to Ghana News Agency, a press release signed by Professor Samuel O. Ofori Bekoe, the Director-General of NaCCA, clarified that the controversy stemmed from confusion between the national curriculum and teacher manuals, which serve different purposes in curriculum delivery. The curriculum is the official policy document containing areas of learning for students, while teacher manuals are supplementary instructional guides meant to support teachers and are not compulsory for curriculum delivery.

The statement noted that teachers could fully implement the approved curriculum without relying on any specific teacher manual. It emphasized that these manuals do not constitute the curriculum itself, and their use is optional; teachers may deliver the approved curriculum without relying on these specific guides.

The statement further stressed the need for Ghana's curriculum to remain anchored in the country's socio-cultural values, constitutional principles, and child-centered development goals.
