Lumba Burial Saga: Lawyer Kusi Boateng Reveals Threats After Filing Appeal

Kumasi: Lawyer Kusi Boateng, counsel for Akosua Serwaa Fosu, has disclosed that he has received numerous threats after filing an appeal against a ruling by the Kumasi High Court.

According to Ghana Web, on November 28, 2025, His Ladyship Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur, a Kumasi High Court judge, ruled that two women, Priscilla Ofori (Odo Broni) and Akosua Serwaa Fosu, must both be recognised as the late Daddy Lumba’s surviving wives. The judge confirmed that both women were customarily married to the late musician prior to his passing. The court, however, dismissed a purported German marriage certificate submitted by Akosua Serwaa, which was intended to prove a civil marriage.

Following the ruling, Akosua Serwaa, through her lawyers, filed an appeal challenging the decision on December 1, 2025. In a recent media interaction, Lawyer Kusi Boateng revealed that he has received several threats since filing the appeal. He stated that even his wife was threatened, which put pressure on him to withdraw the appeal from the Kumasi High Court. Despite the threats, Boateng remains resolute, believing they have a strong case. He questioned the motives behind the intimidation attempts, asserting their pursuit of justice.

Lawyer Kusi Boateng further accused Justice Dorinda Smith Arthur of deliberately ignoring Akosua Serwaa’s German wedding certificate in court. He criticized the judge for allegedly having a biased mindset and claimed that the accusation of forgery insulted his integrity. Boateng highlighted that the existence of a valid German ordinance marriage would have precluded Daddy Lumba from marrying a second wife.
