Accra: The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has confirmed the arrest of one of its officers, Assistant Immigration Control Officer I (AICO I) Ahmed Abdul Samad, in relation to an ongoing investigation by the Ghana Police Service. The officer was apprehended following allegations of his involvement in the transportation of a significant amount of ammunition intercepted by police authorities.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Upper East Regional Command of the GIS, upon a formal request from the Ghana Police Service, released the officer to assist with the investigation. The GIS has expressed its commitment to cooperate fully with the police in this matter, emphasizing that it will not protect any officer whose actions might jeopardize public safety or tarnish the integrity of the Service.
A statement by Maud Anima Quainoo, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, highlighted the Service's dedication to national security and accountability. The GIS assured the public of its determination to take necessary disciplinary actions against any officer found guilty of misconduct, adhering to legal and procedural standards.
