Zoomlion Intensifies Disinfestation Efforts in Upper West to Combat Disease-Transmitting Vectors

Accra: The Upper West Regional office of Zoomlion Ghana Limited has launched an intensified disinfestation exercise across the region to curb the population of disease-transmitting vectors. This initiative aims to ensure a clean and healthy environment during the Christmas period. According to Ghana News Agency, the exercise was conducted between December 9 and December 22, 2025, and spanned all eleven districts and municipalities in the Upper West region. It specifically targeted major breeding grounds for vectors such as mosquitoes and houseflies, which are known to pose significant public health risks. A statement signed by Mr. Ezekiel Ayamga Anabire, the Upper West Regional Vector Control Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, detailed the initiative. It highlighted that the disinfestation covered key areas like public toilets, communal refuse sites, dumping grounds, as well as educational and health institutions. With support from various Municipal and District Assemblies, the exercise aimed for effective coverage and coordination. Other potential vector harbouring sites were also treated to ensure a comprehensive approach to vector control. The primary goal of this exercise was to reduce the breeding of disease-transmitting vectors, thereby preventing outbreaks of diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, and dysentery. The statement assured that the insecticides used were environmentally friendly and effective in eliminating vectors in high-risk areas. Furthermore, Zoomlion complemented the disinfestation efforts with community sensitisation campaigns, educating the public on the importance of good sanitation practices to prevent sanitation-related diseases.
