Akatsi south: Mr Thomas Yao Atidefe, the Founder of the Atidefe Foundation, has taken a significant step in promoting education by sponsoring five students who have gained admission to tertiary institutions but lack the financial resources to pursue their studies. This initiative is part of the foundation's commitment to ensuring that deserving students can access higher education without financial barriers.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Atidefe, a former Presiding Member of the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly, revealed that this sponsorship is aligned with his 'Education for the Needy' programme. He emphasized that this project has been ongoing for years, supporting students with strong academic records who face financial challenges in pursuing tertiary education.
Mr Atidefe highlighted that previous beneficiaries of the foundation's support have achieved significant success, becoming notable figures both locally and internationally. Since the initiative's inception in 2014, eleven students have benefited from this support, underscoring its impact on providing educational opportunities.
Acknowledging the enthusiasm of young people to excel academically, Mr Atidefe stressed the importance of providing financial, counselling, and guidance support to help them reach their full potential. He committed to covering the full tuition fees for the five new beneficiaries until they complete their programs.
The students, who have gained admission to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), and the University of Ghana, Legon, expressed gratitude to Mr Atidefe for his philanthropy. They pledged to work hard in their studies to honor the support they have received.
A respected figure in his community, Mr Atidefe currently serves as the Assembly Member for the Torve Electoral Area. Residents regard him as a dedicated individual with a vision for enhancing development in key sectors of the Akatsi South Municipality.
