Sawla-tuna-kalba: Pupils of the Jang Roman Catholic Primary School in the Savannah Region's Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District have called upon the government and other stakeholders to aid in the renovation of their school facilities. The appeal highlights the deteriorating infrastructure which is hampering effective education.
According to Ghana News Agency, the plea was articulated by Master Sabsomu Nana, a Basic Six pupil and Students' Representative, during the launch of a solar-powered mechanized water system for the Jang community. He emphasized that the increasing student population is overwhelming the current facilities, and called for stakeholder support to address issues such as inadequate furniture and run-down classrooms to help students reach their full potential.
Mr. Thomas Baturi, Headmaster of Jang Roman Catholic Primary School, described the school buildings as having cracked walls, leaking roofs, and insufficient classroom space. He noted that these conditions pose risks to both students and teachers and adversely affect the quality of education. He appealed to the government, corporate bodies, and charitable organizations for support in renovating the school.
The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Chief Executive, Mr. Saaka Sinkina, revealed ongoing plans to seek assistance from the Ghana Education Trust Fund for school renovations. He also mentioned the Assembly's efforts towards constructing a Junior High School block for the Jang community to alleviate the situation.
Representing the Savannah Regional Minister, Mr. Salisu Bi-Wurbe assured the community of the government's dedication to tackling challenges related to water, education, and infrastructure. He encouraged residents to take responsibility for the new facilities to ensure their sustainability.
