Bolgatanga: Hajia Mary Lamisi, the Principal of the Midwifery Training College in Bolgatanga, has urged students to refrain from engaging in nighttime activities that contravene the institution's rules. She emphasized that the college's management would not tolerate any deviant behavior and warned that students found guilty of such actions would face disciplinary measures.
According to Ghana News Agency, Hajia Lamisi made these remarks during the matriculation ceremony and the launch of the college's 75th Anniversary, themed '75 years of excellence in midwifery education; Sustaining Maternal and Child Health Care.' For the 2025/2026 academic year, 200 students have enrolled at the college. The Principal encouraged these students to focus their energies on academic pursuits and wisely manage their time to fulfill their educational objectives.
Hajia Lamisi advised students to engage with all nursing and midwifery learning materials and familiarize themselves with the school's handbook and notices, available both online and on notice boards. She stressed the importance of adhering to the Ministry of Health, Health Training Institutions, and the college's code of conduct, cautioning against seeking intervention from elders when rules are broken.
The Principal highlighted the college's long-standing tradition of academic excellence, with a record of producing skilled midwives who contribute significantly to health service delivery both locally and internationally. She urged new students to strive to emulate and surpass the academic achievements of their predecessors.
Hajia Lamisi reminded students of the critical importance of passing the licensure examination to practice as midwives. She emphasized the need for dedication to studies throughout their time at the college.
Dr. Braimah Baba Abubakari, the Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service, also addressed the students, underscoring the sacred and demanding nature of the midwifery profession. He highlighted the vital role midwives play in ensuring safe deliveries and healthy outcomes for mothers and newborns, urging students to uphold the legacy of excellence that the college has fostered over seven decades.
