Appolonia: The Appolonia Methodist Primary School in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has marked 80 years of existence. The school, which started with a few local pupils in a small Methodist chapel in 1945, now has 760 pupils.
According to Ghana News Agency, a grand ceremony held in Appolonia near Dodowa brought together former pupils from various locations to celebrate and honor the school that has played a pivotal role in shaping their lives. Madam Janet Asantewaa Dosoo, Headteacher of the school, referred to it as "the cradle of knowledge." She highlighted the school's journey from a local initiative to a reputable institution that has significantly influenced individuals excelling in public service, entrepreneurship, politics, academia, and clergy.
She further appealed for additional classrooms and furniture to accommodate more children and allow them to benefit from the quality education provided by the school. Mr. Harry Evans Arthur, Kpone Katamanso Municipal Director of Education, addressed attendees, urging both the young and old to prioritize service, morality, and integrity over greed and corruption. He emphasized that these virtues, inherent in Methodism, have shaped the lives of many prominent individuals in the country.
Mr. Arthur reiterated that serving humanity is akin to serving God, and maintaining high moral standards involves doing what is right regardless of supervision. He underlined the importance of integrity in nation-building, as it ensures accountability among leaders and followers in their interactions with state resources and fellow citizens.
The event featured school children who entertained guests with poetry recitals, cultural dances, and hymns. The celebration concluded with the cutting of an anniversary cake, adding to the festive atmosphere.
