Veep Bawumia Unveils Ghana’s Music Streaming Platform for Local Artists.

Accra: Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has launched Ghana’s music streaming platform designed to ensure Ghanaian music artists and content creators receive adequate compensation for their works. The platform, known as the Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), aims to provide a dedicated space for a wide array of Ghanaian music genres, from highlife and hiplife to afrobeat and traditional rhythms, thereby promoting Ghana’s rich musical heritage.

According to Ghana News Agency, the Ghana Music Xperience platform was created by a group of Ghanaians and is set to connect Ghanaian music with audiences both locally and globally. Dr Bawumia emphasized the historical significance of the launch, noting that Ghana’s talented musicians have long provided joy and hope through their music but have not been adequately rewarded by foreign streaming services. He highlighted the need for platforms that offer proper recognition and compensation to Ghanaian artists, ensuring their rightful place on the global stage.

Dr Bawumia stat
ed that the GMX is more than just a streaming app, serving as an essential addition to Ghana’s digitalization journey. He pointed out that despite having a vast fan base within Ghana, local musicians often struggle to earn sufficient income due to piracy and inadequate promotion by foreign streaming services. The Vice President expressed confidence that with the support of stakeholders and the patronage of the GMX platform, the landscape for Ghanaian musicians and industry players would change, providing them with the deserved recognition and compensation.

The launch event, which marked the formal introduction of the GMX platform, was attended by dignitaries and stakeholders from the entertainment industry, including Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture, Bessa Simons, the President of MUSIGA, and Mr Akwesi Agyeman, the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority. Notable artists such as rapper E.L., Zapp Mallet, Samini, Fred Kyei Mensah, and Kaywa were also present, underscorin
g the importance of the initiative for the local music community.
