ACCRA: The Movement for Change, led by its Vice Presidential candidate Kwame Owusu Danso (KOD), has pledged to address the stark disparities in development within Ghana's Western Region. Despite its rich natural resources, including gold, cocoa, and oil, the region continues to grapple with poverty and underdevelopment. KOD emphasized the need for equitable wealth distribution during a campaign tour, highlighting the Movement's commitment to transformative governance under the Great Transformational Plan (GTP). According to Ghana News Agency, KOD expressed his dismay at the region's poor infrastructure and limited access to essential services, despite its significant contributions to the national economy. The Western Region is a major hub for gold and cocoa production, making Ghana a leading producer globally. Additionally, it is a key player in the production of manganese, timber, rubber, and crude oil, yet these resources have not translated into improved living conditions for its residents. KOD highlight ed the urgent need for a change in governance to ensure that the wealth generated from the region's resources results in tangible benefits for its people. The Movement for Change's GTP, spearheaded by Alan Kyerematen, aims to rectify this imbalance by focusing on infrastructure development, job creation, and enhanced access to healthcare and other essential services. The GTP also includes empowering local communities to have a say in managing their resources, with an emphasis on transparency and collaboration with local authorities. 'We will work closely with the chiefs and elders to ensure that the benefits of these resources are felt by everyone,' KOD stated, stressing the Movement's dedication to rectifying regional imbalances and fostering sustainable development. As KOD continues his tour, he reassured Western Region residents of the Movement for Change's commitment to ending the paradox of wealth and poverty coexisting in their land, promising a future where the region's resources directly contribute to its people's prosperity.
