Accra: Dr. Hassan Ayariga, the Flagbearer of the All People's Congress (APC), has pledged to create a transparent and inclusive governance system for all citizens if elected in the upcoming December 7 election. He announced plans for comprehensive policy reforms aimed at tackling corruption, enhancing data infrastructure, and supporting economic growth during a meeting with the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) in Accra. According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Ayariga emphasized the necessity of implementing policies that prioritize the broader population's welfare. He vowed to strengthen national institutions to support good governance and expressed a commitment to enacting a national data system that would collect extensive personal and property data, which he believes is crucial for informed decision-making and national development. Dr. Ayariga criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to establish a functional national development plan despite de cades in power. He promised that an APC government would create a "working national development plan" to guide the country's growth and ensure continuity in project execution. The APC leader also outlined plans to introduce a manufacturing policy featuring a flat rate for electricity and water to reduce production costs. Additionally, he proposed the establishment of duty-free ports with streamlined tax charges to boost trade. Dr. Ayariga's economic strategy includes a "price control and guarantee system" to ensure fair market pricing, though he acknowledged that not all policies would be universally favorable. Dr. Ayariga advocated for a revised minimum wage structure, proposing a wage between GHS150 and GHS300, and a minimum salary of GHS5,000, to provide workers with a decent standard of living. He suggested a bi-weekly salary payment system to help workers manage their finances more effectively and announced plans for improved pension schemes to enhance retirement benefits. On healthcare, Dr. Ayariga c ommitted to establishing ultra-modern hospitals in all 16 regions of the country to bolster healthcare delivery. Dr. Joseph Obeng, President of GUTA, supported Dr. Ayariga's proposals for duty-free ports and flat utility rates, which he believes could improve business conditions. However, he advised the APC leader to reconsider the price control policy, highlighting the importance of supply and demand in determining market prices.
