ACCRA: Six years after the release of his debut single, “Nyame Bekyere,” singer-songwriter and guitarist Kyei Mensah reflects on the transformative impact the song has had on his career. The song, which blends Country and Blues influences with Highlife music, has not only showcased Mensah’s artistic and spiritual depth but also launched him into the spotlight of the Ghanaian music scene.
According to Ghana Web, Mensah attributes much of his early success to the collaborative efforts of renowned figures in the music industry, including his father, legendary music producer Fred Kyei Mensah, and the late Highlife star Kofi B, who co-wrote the song. The record was produced by notable Gospel sound engineer Herbert Crassie, known as Oshogbo, along with Stanley Adjetey. In a recent interview with Class News, Mensah praised Maadwoa for her precise backing vocals on the track.
The song “Nyame Bekyere,” performed in Akan (Twi), draws inspiration from the biblical story of Abraham and Isaac, offering listeners assuran
ce of God’s timely intervention and provision amidst life’s uncertainties. Mensah recalled the ease of recording at Oshogbo’s Music Klinic Recording Studio and the memorable experience of collaborating with musicians like celebrity guitarist Dominic Quarchie and bassist Gaddiel Amoah.
Despite facing challenges such as dehydration during the filming of the music video, Mensah reflects fondly on the widespread recognition the song brought him. He recounted moments of hearing the track played in public spaces, like minibuses, and the subsequent opportunities to perform at various events due to its popularity.
On social media, Mensah expressed gratitude for the journey that began at age 24, acknowledging the unexpected plans that unfolded. He emphasized the timeless nature of quality music, stating, “Good music will never die,” a lesson he cherishes six years after his debut.
