Hope for Future Generations Launches Immunization Advocacy Documentary in Ghana

ACCRA: Hope for Future Generations (HFFG), in collaboration with Socioserve Ghana and the Alliance for Health and Immunisation Advocates (AHIFA), has unveiled a new documentary titled "Looking Within: The Road to Vaccine Sovereignty." This initiative is part of the Financing Immunization Advocacy Response Project (FAIR Project) and aims to bolster advocacy efforts and secure sustainable funding for immunization in Ghana. According to Ghana News Agency, the documentary marks a significant step in the nation's journey towards vaccine sovereignty by showcasing the substantial progress Ghana has made in immunization. It also addresses the challenges that need to be tackled to maintain this momentum. The documentary features personal narratives, insights from experts, and on-the-ground realities to underscore the critical need for continued investment in immunization to safeguard future generations. The launch, orchestrated by Dr. Hafiz Adam Taher, Director of External Health Cooperation and Technical Coordinati on at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the documentary's role in supporting Ghana as it moves towards self-financing its immunization services. Dr. Taher emphasized the importance of increasing domestic resource mobilization for vaccine procurement and primary healthcare to save lives and achieve full immunization sovereignty by 2030. Ms. Sabina Morgan, Project Coordinator, outlined the documentary's broader objectives as part of an extensive advocacy campaign aimed at driving policy change and enhancing resource mobilization. She announced plans for a mass media and social media campaign to promote the documentary's message across diverse audiences in Ghana. Ms. Josephine Sackey, Executive Director of Socioserve Ghana, pointed out that the documentary, which focuses on regions including Eastern, Bono East, and Volta, urges government, private sector, and global stakeholders to prioritize sustained financial commitments to fortify Ghana's health security. The documentary also explores the economic advan tages of investing in immunization. It presents preventive healthcare, especially through vaccines, as one of the most cost-effective health interventions that reduce long-term healthcare costs and increase productivity by keeping populations healthy. Mrs. Cecilia Senoo, Executive Director of HFFG, praised the government for its positive response to co-financing obligations this year and urged further commitment to the transition roadmap towards immunization self-financing. She highlighted ongoing challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, logistical issues, and vaccine misinformation that pose threats to immunization efforts. The event received commendations from various stakeholders, including queenmothers and partners, who acknowledged the documentary's role in boosting public awareness and understanding of the importance of immunization in Ghana.
