Asuogyaman MP unveils GHS700,000.00 health Centre at New Powmu

Mr Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Member of Parliament for the Asuogyaman Constituency, has inaugurated an ultramodern 10-bed health clinic at New Powmu in the Eastern Region, valued at GHS700,000.00. The facility boasts a range of amenities, including a changing room, male and female wards, a dispensary, a labour ward, maternity services, staff restrooms, dressing and injection rooms, a kitchen, a patient washroom, an outpatient department (OPD), a waiting area. Speaking to the gathering, Mr Ampem Nyarko said that the newly constructed facility will enhance the health centre's activities, and urged the administration to ensure the building was always kept clean to prolong its lifespan. 'I would want to ask the health directorate and management to work hard to protect and maintain the facility to extend its lifespan,' he said. He stated that the residents and leaders of the Powmu community contributed significantly to the success of the project by dedicating themselves during construction. 'Residents in Powmu and other nearby areas won't have to travel to the Volta River Authority hospital at Akosombo to access health care as they used to do earlier' he noted He emphasised the importance of health facilities in national development and urged health professionals to be diligent in the delivery of service. Ms Rebecca Dede Bantey, Asuogyaman District Director of Ghana Health Service, acknowledged the importance of the health facility in the neighbourhood and beyond. She stated that it was fully equipped to deliver a wide range of critical health services, including clinical care, maternity and child health, emergency services, domiciliary, health promotion, and preventive care. 'This facility will not only save lives but also improve the quality of life for countless people,' she added. She also stated that they should commit to the ongoing mission of the Network of Practice (NOP), a strategy being implemented by the Ghana Health Service to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at the primary level. It focuses on improving quality health services through partnership and innovation, which entails establishing networks of health facilities within a defined geographical area to provide comprehensive health care. The Director called for the upgrading of Boso and Senchi Ferry Health Centres to serve as hubs in those networks and committed to continue working together with healthcare providers, community members, and all other stakeholders to ensure that the facility remained a thriving focus of healing, education, and support Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, the Paramount Chief of Akwamu Traditional Area, praised the member of parliament for the generous gesture, stating that human health was extremely vital. 'As a health expert, I understand the significance of health facilities in human lives,' he said. He urged everyone to keep the facility clean and neat, noting that there have been cases where health clinics have left filthy and unclean, posing danger to patients. In reference to nurses and other health workers, he said: 'You are like God; how you treat the people who will be attending the health centre will influence how their health problems will be resolved.'
