Glasgow: The National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Ghana has firmly rejected claims that some athletes from Team Ghana have gone missing after the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.
According to Ghana Web, the NPC Ghana released a statement on Monday, August 3, 2026, labeling the reports as inaccurate. They urged the public and the media to rely only on verified information from the relevant authorities concerning the athletes' whereabouts. This statement comes in response to increasing discussions about athletes who have stayed in the United Kingdom post-Games.
The committee's statement highlighted that they are aware of recent media reports and public discussions concerning the status of certain Team Ghana athletes following the conclusion of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The NPC's statement also referenced remarks from Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Communications Director Charles Osei Asibey, who, as reported by Sporty FM, clarified that Team Ghana athletes are returning to Ghana in groups, rather than all at once.
Furthermore, the NPC emphasized the importance of not labeling athletes as missing or unaccounted for without confirmation from the relevant authorities. The statement underscored that it is incorrect to describe the athletes in such terms without verified information.
The committee clarified that the Ghana Olympic Committee's designated Games Management structure was responsible for Team Ghana's accommodation, logistics, administration, and travel arrangements during the competition. Moreover, they noted that some athletes remaining in Britain should not be automatically assumed to have disappeared, as their immigration permissions remain valid until August 16, 2026, and others are scheduled to return home in organized groups.
