Accra, Dec. 21, GNA – The Liberian Embassy in Ghana has extended well wishes to Ghanaians and the Diplomatic Corps ahead of the yuletide, calling for the use the Christmas festivities to advance peaceful co-existence in Africa.

“We should use the occasion to maintain friendship, tranquility, brotherhood and good relations,” Mr. Phillip Garjay Innis, the Minister Counsellor and Head of Chancery of the Embassy, said.

Delivering a Christmas message, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Accra, he said ensuring peace and unity could not be glossed over, especially at a time when the continent was witnessing varied political crises.

“Given the wave of instability in Africa, ranging from insurgency in the Sahel to military coups in the sub-Region, there is the need for us to stay united,” he advised.

Mr. Garjay Innis lauded Ghana for upholding the values of democracy over the years.

“Ghana has been a role model and beacon of hope from Pan-Africanism and institutionalising democratic tenets,” he noted.

He said his country cherished the bi-lateral ties between Liberia and Ghana, saying the two countries had been good development partners over the last six decades.

We are ready to engage new NDC leadership on politics of issues – NPP

Acrra, Dec. 21, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says it is ready to engage the new leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on issues to help voters make informed decisions in the 2024 general elections.

While congratulating the new leaders that were elected at the NDC’s Delegates Congress in Accra last Sunday, the NPP said discussions ahead of the next general elections must be based on facts, achievements, and records.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary, NPP, said the country’s political discourse must be devoid of malice, untruth and propaganda.

“We are ready to engage them on politics of issues, and not propaganda and deceit. We invite them to debate us on the records of good governance to enable the good people of Ghana to make informed decisions in 2024,” he said.

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia is now the Chairman of the NDC whiles Mr Fifi Fiavi Kwetey clinched the General Secretary position.

The Delegates also settled on Mr Joseph Yammin as the National Organiser.

The NPP expressed concerns about some comments made by Mr Asiedu Nketia in his victory speech, in which the latter suggested that the new leadership of the NDC were willing to sacrifice their lives to secure victory for the Party in 2024.

Mr Kodua Frimpong condemned the comments, describing it as “nation-wrecking, unpatriotic, and disgraceful”.

He appealed to the National Peace Council, civil society organisations, the media, and members of the diplomatic corps to demand an unqualified apology from the NDC and impress upon the Party to refrain from comments that had the potential to destabilise the country.

“We condemn such unpatriotic and disgraceful conduct, which portends a great danger to our democracy and security of the State,” Mr Kodua Frimpong, said.

The NPP acknowledged the appreciation of the Cedi against the Dollar, and the continuous drop in fuel prices – a development, the Party said, reflected the Government’s efforts in addressing the current economic hardship.

The Party appealed to traders and service providers to reduce their prices to enable the citizenry realise the impact of the appreciation of the Cedi and other economic gains.

“We appeal to the Ghanaian populace to be patient and have confidence in the NPP Government, especially when the interventions put in place are gradually yielding results.

“We may not be out of the woods yet, but we are definitely on track to restoring our country to the path of sustained growth and prosperity,” Mr Kodua Frimpong said.

We have a lot to do to prevent new NDC executives from sending us to opposition- NPP Man

Kwasi Korang, the New Patriotic Party’s Polling station Chairman for the Seventh Day Adventist Junior High School, Chiraa, has asked the party not to underrate the newly elected national executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He told Kwabena Agyapong on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline that the newly elected party officers are experienced politicians who should not be underestimated.

He and his executives are experienced and solid, and they have excellent deputies.

He claims that while the NDC elects experienced party leaders, the NPP does not.

”Is the NPP learning any useful lessons from this election? When a former MP, Minister, or appointee from the NPP decides to contest in a party election, he or she would be vilified and insulted left, right, and centre instead of bringing such experienced individuals on board.

The NDC tends to elect very experienced people to run their party compared with the NPP where it is difficult for former MPs and Appointees to run the party. Let us learn from the NDC how to elect a rich team to run the NPP.”

He said ”if the NPP is committed to breaking the 8, then we have a lot of work to do. We have to work hard. The government has done its part, and the party should do its part. Asiedu Nketiah is formidable, experienced, and a strategist. The other executives are experienced, and the NPP must be worried”.

NDC flagbearership: Mahama should go uncontested – Samuel Yaw Adusei

A National Chairman-hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Yaw Adusei, has announced a campaign to see former President John Dramani Mahama nominated unopposed as the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 presidential election.

Samuel Yaw Adusei lost his bid for the chairmanship race at the just-ended National Delegates Congress of the NDC at the Accra Sports Stadium, as the former General Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, emerged victorious.

In a statement following the election of the party’s new national executives, Samuel Yaw Adusei said he will lead a coalition that will see all 28 executives in each of the constituencies across the country endorse John Mahama as the unopposed flagbearer of the party.

“Democracy is by the people and for the people and that consensus building has been one of the conventional ways of resolving issues. As I promised during my campaign tour, I would like to activate the powers at the base to resolve this issue. The party is organised at the branch level supervised by the Constituencies and any resolution by the base of the party cannot be undermined by NEC.

“As part of this agenda, I have decided to lead a ‘coalition’ to solicit for the endorsements of all the 28 Constituency executives and branch executives across the country in a petition to the National Executive Committee to plan the reorganisation of the foundation of the party rather and allow John Mahama to go uncontested,” he said.

He also congratulated the newly-elected national executives of the party, while promising to join the collective effort of the NDC to regain power.

With the election of its executives from the branch level to the national level concluded, the NDC is left with the election of a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates to conclude their preparation for the 2024 elections.

So far, two names; John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Kwabena Duffour, have emerged as prospective candidates in the contest.

We’ll build a collation centre for Asiedu Nketiah’s administration – NPP

A member of the National Communications Team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has served notice that the party is unshaken by the new role taken by the former General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.

“As a party, we have resolved to build a collation center for Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah’s administration to enable them to collate the results of the 2024 general elections,” Mr Kojo Darkwa Assumani mocked.

Mr Kojo Darkwa Assumani said this in reacting to news that the newly elected officers of the NDC have sent shivers down the spine of the governing party, particularly in the wake of the widely held opinion of the gross mismanagement of the economy.

He was speaking on the discussion segment of the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Odehyieba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has revealed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was unable to collate results in the 2020 polls because an IT system installed by the then-Chairman of the party, Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, crashed after just five regional results were entered into it for processing.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah, ahead of last Saturday’s polls made the revelation during his interaction with some party delegates in the Ashanti Region.

In a leaked audio, Mr Nketia is heard telling his audience: “I understand if anyone says I’m partly to blame for the collation fiasco because all those people undertaking the process were reporting to me but the bit of it is that there were people tasked to do that job.”

He added that the party could not collate results for the 2020 elections due to an IT system failure.

Mr Assumani said the NPP is not moved one bit by the new role of the man known in the political circles as General Mosquito.

“As a party, what we will do to support him [General Mosquito] in his new role will be to build for him and the NDC a collation centre to enable them to find figures when is time to go the Supreme Court,” he ridiculed.

He said the NDC’s new executives bring nothing new to the table.

“It is the same gibberish propaganda to sway Ghanaians like it was done before in 2008.

“The NPP has its eyes on the ball and are waiting for the referee to blow the whistle for the competition to start,” he stressed.
