Women’s role essential in breaking eight-year election string

Cape Coast,– Ms Sarah Afful, Central Regional Director of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has stated that the role of women in breaking the eight-year jinx was very essential and must be given the needed attention.

She, therefore, called on women to be optimistic and work assiduously to retain the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in government in the 2024 general election for the continuation of its pro-poor policies for the benefits of the vulnerable and the poor.

In an interview with the GNA, Ms Afful who is also contesting for the Central Regional Women’s Organizer position cautioned that voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be “a vote for insensitivity, hardship and a visionless government”.

She stated that the NPP government had brought enormous socio-economic relief to many women than any other government in the history of Ghana through its pro-poor policies.

Ms Afful pointed out that many Ghanaian women, who could not afford to send their children to Senior High School due to high school fees, were now saving thousands of Ghana cedis for other economic ventures as a result of the policy.

Also, under the NPP administration, many women caterers had been employed to provide delicious meals to basic school pupils under the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

Many other women farmers had also benefited from the Planting for Food and Jobs to boost food security and generate sustainable income for women.

She said that the Micro Finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) was disbursing loans to women to engage in small and medium enterprises.

Under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, she noted that vulnerable aged people with severe disabilities and pregnant women had also been given their monthly stipends.

“All of these programmes initiated to assist and empower the livelihood of women must inform them on the need to retain the NPP Government to be able to continue its goods works of bettering their lives”.

She entreated women in the region to “show appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP by working hard to win all the lost seats back from the NDC in the region”.

To achieve that, they must embark on a door-to-door campaign and propagate the achievements of the government to give the NPP, a resounding victory in 2024.

“Our impact must be felt within the party and as you know women are good at reaching out to a lot of people in the grassroots with good messages.

“The party appreciates the efforts of women in the region and urged they must continue supporting the party to win both the presidential and parliamentary elections,” she added.
