’We are sorry’ – GFA boss Kurt Okraku to ex-national players

President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku has pleaded to former national team players on behalf of the entire football fraternity to forgive anything that has been done to offend them in any way relating to the national team.

It has been over time reported that former national team players are unhappy with how they were treated by the country during their playing days.

But the GFA President in a meeting held on Wednesday at the Kempiski Hotel in Accra issued a plea to ask them for forgiveness.

The event was organised by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif who mainly did this to familiarise himself with the former national heroes and also commended them for their great service to the nation and has asked them to willingly come on board with their support and prayers to uplift the hoodoo on the senior national team which has seen the Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] trophy that hs eluded Ghana for almost 40 now.

Speaking at the meeting, the GFA President Kurt Okraku, praised the national heroes for their remarkable and great service to the nation and has asked them to find a place in their hearts to forgive anything bad that was done to them during their playing days with any of our national teams.

“You sacrificed from the days when you walked long distances to training in your youth till the days when you played in the national teams. In the end, Ghana became the ultimate beneficiary of your sacrifices,” he said.

“In the challenging times when there was no or little motivation, you still sacrificed to represent Ghana. I remember the story of the flight to Gabon and am sure you all have stories to tell. These are the ultimate sacrifices you all made for Ghana.

“Our mission here today is to say thank you. However if in any way, we have offended any of you, we are sorry,” the GFA President pleaded.

Some of the ex-players that made themselves present for the event include Rev. Osei Kofi, Abedi Pele, Wilberforce Mfum, Stephen Appiah, Samuel Osei Kuffour, Augustine Arhinful, Tony Baffoe, Ibrahim Sunday, Ablade Kumah, Dan Owusu, Affoh Duodu, Sam Johnson and many more.
