Wa,- Mr Albert Ankomah, the Upper West Regional Head of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), has indicated that the Authority has met most of its set targets for 2021 through effective collaboration with its stakeholders.
He said those targets included ensuring public health and safety, investigation of consumer complaints, and regular inspection of shops to ensure FDA-regulated products were safe for consumption.
Mr Ankomah said this during the Nine Lessons and Carols in Wa on Wednesday organized by the FDA with representatives of departments and agencies such as the Ghana Road Safety Authority and Pharmacy Council and staff of the FDA attending.
The Nine Lessons and Carols is one of the activities Christians observe towards the Christmas celebration on 25th December, which they regard as the birth date of Jesus Christ.
The event was characterized by hymns and the reading of scriptures.
“Through the efforts of our cherished consumers, the office was able to investigate about twelve consumer complaints within the region to ensure the safety of all the citizens in the region”, Mr Ankomah explained.
While thanking God for a successful year, Mr Ankomah stressed the commitment of the FDA in collaborating with its stakeholders such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Health Services, and the Pharmacy Council among others in the ensuing year to consolidate their efforts of protecting the health and safety of the general public.
He indicated that the FDA, led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mrs Delese Mimi Darko, was poised to meet its objectives including ensuring public health and safety through the consumption of wholesome food and medical products.
Talking on COVID-19, Mr Ankomah urged the general public to get vaccinated for the safety of all Ghanaians.
He also entreated the public to download the Medsafety App from playstore to enable them easily “report the Adverse Effect Following Immunization and Adverse Drug Reactions to enable the FDA to monitor all approved drugs and vaccines in use in Ghana”.
Reverend Monica A. Achana of the Methodist Church Ghana, Wa Circuit, who delivered a sermon at the event on the theme: “God’s unconditional Love”, said the birth and death of Jesus Christ was to bridge the gap that sin had created between man and God.
“Sin swept away man and there is no way a man can be saved and have good union with God except through the pure blood of Jesus Christ”, she explained, adding that the blood of Jesus Christ had replaced animal sacrifice to God for the atonement of man’s sins.
Rev Achana quoted scripture in John 3:16, which says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”, and urged all to embrace Jesus Christ to share in God’s good tidings.
