Past students of Namasua R/C Basic School support Alma mater 

The Namasua Community Development Association has presented teaching and learning materials to the Namasua Roman Catholic Basic School in the Berekum Municipality of the Bono Region to advance academic progress.

The Association is made up of past students of the school resident abroad.

The materials included supplementary reading, story and textbooks, 1000 pieces of exercise books, boxes of pens and pencils, rulers and dictionaries as well as jerseys and footballs. 

“We are dedicated to promoting education and the general well-being of the community”, Nana Adwoa Kyeraa, the women organiser of the Association stated.

Nana Kyeraa also the Akyeamehemaa of the Kurontire Division of the Sunyani Traditional Area said the items were not only to help push effective teaching and learning, but further sustain the interest of the pupils in the school.

“This is an intervention to eliminate barriers militating against the growth and development of the school,” she said and urged parents and guardians to be more committed and provide their children and wards the basic educational needs to motivate them to learn hard and achieve academic laurels.

“It is unacceptable for parents to rely solely on the government for the provision of the educational needs for their children. We must therefore support the government in its bid to promote quality education, particularly at the basic levels,” she said.

Nana Kyeraa explained as part of its activities, the Association had supported the Namasua Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compound with first aid and other health care items such as thermometers, gloves and plasters.

Mr Sebastian Sebom, the Headmaster of the School thanked the Association for the gesture and appealed for more support.

“We are in the fourth week since school resumed, but many of the children don’t have books and other learning materials and that is hindering academic progress,” he stated.

Mr Sebom said the school had 420 pupils’ population from the Kindergarten to Junior High level and appealed for a library, mechanised borehole for the provision of potable water and Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory.
