Otto Addo can make history with Black Stars – Ex-GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi

A former Ghana Football Association [GFA] president, Kwesi Nyantakyi has offered his support to newly appointed Black Stars coach, Otto Addo to steer the team to book a place in the 2022 World Cup but has cautioned him to “operate as a man of his own”.

The country’s football governing body last week named the former Ghana international on the interim for the World Cup playoff next month against Nigeria.

Addo will be assisted by George Boateng and Didi Dramani with Chris Hughton as the technical advisor for the new technical team.

With Ghana set to host the Super Eagles on March 24 at the Cape Coast Stadium before travelling to Abuja for the return game on March 29, Nyantakyi has back the 46-year-old to make history with the team.

“I believe that Otto Addo is on the verge of making history if he qualifies Ghana to the World Cup. He will be the first Black Stars player of this generation to qualify the team to the World Cup as the head coach and I believe it will bring a lot of dignity, honour to him as an individual and his family,” Nyantakyi, who is former CAF 1st vice president disclosed on GTV Sports Plus.

“In whatever way we can, the media-in particular-say good things about them, motivate and encourage them. Otto Addo should operate as a man of his own. He should select players on the basis of demonstrable merit so that like the wife of [Julius] Caesar, very little can be said about the peoples’ qualification, competence or integrity. But I believe that if we are united and rally behind this team, we are capable of qualifying.”

Otto Addo previously worked as a scout for the Black Stars in 2013 prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana after missing out in the last edition of the Mundial in Russia in 2018 will be aiming to return to the global showpiece for their fourth time in their history.
