Newcastle United shockingly join race to sign free-agent Andre Ayew – Reports

Newcastle United have astonishingly joined the race to sign Ghana captain, Andre Ayew according to reports in the UK.

The 31-year-old set to be a free agent at the end of the month after failing to secure Premier League football with Swansea City.

Ayew scored 17 Championship goals and getting four assists, this following the 2019/20 season when he got 16 Championship goals and seven assists.

Directly involved in 44 goals (scoring 33 and assisting another 11) these past two seasons in the Championship, suggesting he is too good for that level and could potentially do a job still in the Premier League.

They report that as well as Newcastle, other clubs have registered their interest in the attacking player.

However, Mike Ashley has increasingly used the loan and free markets, with age seemingly no bar to the recruitment of players such as 30+ Andy Carroll. Since Steve Bruce arrived, nine of the fourteen senior players brought in have either been free agents or loan signings.

On the fitness front, impressive stats from Andrew Ayew at Swansea, as he has played in 92 Championship matches over the course of these last two years.

Leeds United, Fenerbahce, Celtic among clubs are all interested in signing the U-20 World Cup winner.
