Moroccan Embassy commemorates national day

Moroccans across the world celebrated the twenty-second anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Throne of His glorious ancestors on Friday 30th July 2021. It was a moment of honor of a history that reflects the perfect relationship between the Throne and the people in their march towards the future.

The Throne Day is the strong symbolic moment of the renewal of the alliance between the King and the Moroccan People by strengthening the bonds of allegiance and cohesion. It is both an opportunity to evaluate what has been achieved during the previous period and an occasion to strengthen the action to continue building a modern Morocco while protecting its supreme interests, territorial unity, and sovereignty over the whole of its territory.

In Ghana, the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco commemorated the day with a special two-hour event at the residence of the Ambassador, Her Excellency Mrs. Imane Quaadi. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was attended by only selected members of the Moroccan community in Ghana, Moroccan scholarship alumni, and members of the media.

In her speech, Ambassador Quaadi reflected on the last 22 years under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty during which Morocco experienced a wave of reforms that set the country on a dynamic development path. She emphasized the modernization of infrastructure, the launch of several sectoral strategies, and the vast renewable energy program which have all contributed to strengthening the economy, support growth, and prepare the future of the Kingdom.

She revealed that this year’s celebration coincided with the recent presentation before His Majesty of the new development model for a more prosperous Morocco. According to her, the focusses on the singularity of the Kingdom’s institutional democratic model whereby the Monarchy is the centerpiece of the state, the symbol of national unity, the guarantor of the balance of power, and the bearer of the long-term strategic vision.

Ambassador Quaadi explained that the new development model consists of the targeted development objectives which would elevate the Kingdom to the top third of the various global rankings by 2035.

“These objectives include doubling the GDP per capita by 2035, ensuring that more than 90% of pupils master elementary skills and competencies by the end primary school, increasing the number of doctors per inhabitant to reach the World Health Organization standards, bringing the informal employment rate down to 20%, boosting the participation rate of women from 22% in 2019 up to 45% and achieving a more than 80% satisfaction rate among citizens with respect to the administration and public services“, she added.

Touching on the bilateral relations between Morocco and Ghana, the Head of the Moroccan mission hailed the tremendous effort by the Ghanaian authorities to curb the coronavirus pandemic and alleviate the economic burden on Ghanaians. She called for the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially in the health sector.

“The challenges raised by the Covid -19 crisis and the risks of future health crises makes it now urgent to strengthen our regional cooperation in developing our nations and Africa’s health systems’ capacity for surveillance, prevention, and resilience to meet our needs”, she stressed.
