Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister has appealed to Humanity First Ghana to continue to prioritize the region in their scheme of work to help facilitate its speedy development.
He said apart from the health sector, there were many other areas they could partner with them to help develop.
Dr Bin Salih commended the Ahmadiyya community when a team from Humanity First Ghana including two medical doctors from Humanity First UK paid a courtesy call on him.
He lauded the contribution of the Ahmadiyya community to the socio-economic development of the region.
“The people of this region truly and sincerely appreciate the contribution of the Ahmadiyya community to the socio-economic development of the region especially in the areas of education and health”, he said.
“I therefore see your visit as an opportunity for us to lay a solid foundation between Humanity First and the Health sector of the Upper West Region”, he said.
This, according to him was necessary because health was a very serious challenge to the people of the region, adding that, the various clinics, health centers and hospitals dotted across the region were not enough and more has to be added.
He said more important, however, was the human capital, which he expressed excitement that the coming of the UK Specialist Doctors would witness the transfer of skills to help build the capacity of health professionals in the various hospitals through training.
The Regional Minister said that the region was ready to establish a long term relations with Humanity First, adding that, he had no doubt about their commitment to do so.
Alhaji Farouq Ali Gbongtaa, Chairman of Humanity First Ghana, said even though they had been operating in Northern Ghana for close to 20 years, this, however, was the first time they had come to the Upper West Region.
He said averagely the organisation constructs about 10 boreholes and refurbishes about 30 of them every year, and that they had also constructed a number of schools under the knowledge for life programme.
He said they had been receiving Doctors from other countries but that this was the first time they were having Doctors from the UK and they chose the Upper West Region to volunteer their services.
Dr Azher Siddiq, Humanity First UK, Ear and Throat (ENT) Specialist/Consultant, said they linked up with the Global Health to advance clinical care by training the human resource capital.
He said they were volunteers working for the good of humanity, adding that, they therefore wanted to collaborate with the local team in the region in order to identify areas of need so that they could help fill the gap.
He said they would try to align their work with the regional aims and objectives of the health sector to achieve a common goal, and that a needs assessment had already been carried out and based upon that they chose the region.
Dr Siddiq assured all of their very good intentions and willingness to establish a long term relationship with the region.
The other colleague is Dr Ijaz Ahmad, Humanity First UK and a Paediatrician Consultant.
