Ghana U-20 midfielder Emmanuel Essiam keen on developing at new club FC Basel

Ghana international, Emmanuel ‘Sali’ Essiam says he joined FC Basel because he is confident it will be the perfect place for him to develop his career.

The Ghana U-20 midfielder on Monday, January 3, 2022, sealed a sensational move from Berekum Chelsea to join the Swiss giants on a four-year contract.

Speaking to the media team of the club, Emmanuel Essiam disclosed that the stories of Africa stars including Mohammed Salah and Samuel Inkoom motivated him to choose FC Basel.

“The knowledge of the size and history of the club, the enthusiastic fans, the national and international successes as well as the stories of African players like Mohamed Salah, Mohamed Elneny and Samuel Inkoom, who launched their European careers at FCB, made me feel that Basel would be the perfect step for my development and my career,” the Ghanaian teenager said as quoted on the website of FC Basel.

He continued, “I’m a central midfielder, I run a lot, I like to go into one-on-one fights and I like to play dominant football with my team. With my game overview, I can support the team both in attack and defense. In the game I try to break through the opposing lines with clever passes. I feel honored and happy to be with FCB.”

Emmanuel Essiam, 18, has joined the Swiss club from Ghana Premier League outfit Berekum Chelsea FC.
