Some members of the Juaboso branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the Juaboso District Assembly to forcefully collect back monies allegedly given the Assembly members to confirm the District Chief Executive nominee.
Mr. Godfred Kwabena Adjei, the President’s nominee only managed to secure 11 YES votes out of 23 Members of the Sefwi Juaboso District falling short of the two-thirds majority mark needed to confirm his nomination.
This infuriated the NPP members who heckled some Assembly Members in an attempt to retrieve their monies allegedly paid to them. Some of them in fury repeatedly threatened the Assembly Members to cough up the monies or would lose their lives.
They said the bribes ranging from GHS1,000 to GHS4,000 were secretly paid to the Assemblymembers to massively give the President’s nominee a 100 percent confirmation, but the members failed their part of the bargain.
It took the timely intervention of the Juaboso police to save the Assembly Members from the irate party members who charged at them to return the monies.
It is however not clear whether their safety would be guaranteed even in their homes considering the anger of the group who have vowed to use all means to retrieve the cash.
