Accra,- Families of people killed in the Ejura disturbances last year have appealed to the government through the Ministry of National Security to swiftly move in to stop people making hate speeches on some radio stations and social media on compensation.
They said although they had reported the conduct of those individuals to the Ejura Divisional police command, there was the need for government to step in to avert a possible recurrence.
This was in a joint statement signed by Alhaji Inusah Bawah, leader of the group, Abukakar Atia, family representative of Abdul Nasir Usif and Abdul Wahab, family representative of Murtala Mohammed and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday.
The statement said one of the individuals reported to the Police had claimed that he was the liaison officer to the Ejura Traditional Council.
It said he made many statements that families were each given GHS 30,000, adding “This compensation cannot bring back our lost ones and the money cannot equate their lives.”
It said the compensation was in compliance with the recommendations of the committee and wondered why that should be a matter of ridicule in the media.
The statement said they also threatened the lives of family members, which had been reported to the police and appealed to radio stations to stay away from such individuals as any legal action taken could affect them too.
