DCE urges parents to inculcate Ghanaian values in children

Tema, – Ms. Sarah Dugbakie Pobee, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ada East District Assembly, has advised parents to instill Ghanaian norms and values in their children, especially the respect for the elderly.

She said the first step to nurture lifelong values in children was during childhood, but some parents were unable to spend enough time with their children.

Ms Dugbakie, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Ada, expressed regret about the rate of indiscipline and disrespect among the youth in recent times and charged parents to teach their children the value of obedience, which produced responsible and law-abiding citizens.

She noted that it was difficult to correct some youth because of some parents’ failure to discipline their children at a tender age to shape them to fit into society.

The DCE said adherence to Ghanaian values was one sure way to promote peace and harmony in the country and helped the children to avoid being influenced by bad people in society.

“When we were growing up, an elderly person can just stop and discipline you when you are doing something bad but this time, you can’t do that or even report it to their parents,” she bemoaned.

She cautioned parents to desist from warning teachers not to discipline their wards, urging that parents must be able to play their roles and allow teachers to develop the children.
