Communities in Jomoro sensitized on proposed Petroleum Hub Development Corporation

Takoradi,– The Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) and the Western Nzema Traditional Council (WNTC) have started engaging the host communities of the proposed Petroleum Hub project jurisdiction.

The objective is to sensitize all stakeholders involved in the progress of the Corporation as well as the compensation development and its related issues.

The engagement started on Tuesday January 18 where the CEO of the PHDC Mr Charles Owusu, and his two Deputies called on the WNTC.

The week-long exercise would see all the 46 Divisional areas and the about 108 communities and cottages in Jomoro engaged and sensitized.

Also, the concerns of the various stakeholders including, the youth and other social interests are expected to be taken and accordingly addressed.

Mr Patrick Ekye Kwesie, Spokesperson for the WNTC who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the community engagement underscored the importance of the exercise.

He said the communities were sensitized on the Environmental Impact Assessment conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), determination of the buffer zones, job opportunities, and vendor services development among others.

He said the project would be a game changer for the people of Nzema and called on all well-meaning individuals from Nzema to support it.

“Jomoro that we presume to be the California and Venice of Africa will be more advanced and credited. This project will bring immense benefit in terms of communal acceleration”, he said.

Mr Kwesie appealed to the various Divisional Chiefs and their subjects to offer the necessary support and corporation when the team visited their communities for a successful engagement.

He also expressed gratitude to the President for bringing the project to Nzema.

“One thing that the Western Nzema Traditional Council wish to state is that, the project is not a refinery. It is a hub complex. So we cannot compare a common refinery to the petroleum hub that is taking Six percent of our land. We the good people of Jomoro wish to thank you Mr President”, he said.

“Your listening ear to make Jomoro the hub for wealth creation buffles us as the Nzema dream is being realized”, he added.
