Kadjebi (O/R),-Mr Yao Gomado, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akan Constituency has presented mathematical sets to 1,426 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates.
The items were procured from the MP’s Share of the Common Fund and candidates from 58 Junior High Schools in the Kadjebi District were benefiting from it.
This is intended to help improve the BECE result which for some time now had declined in the district.
The Kadjebi District in 2018 BECE result recorded 19 per cent pass, in 2019 scored 19.5 per cent and in 2020 gained 20.5 per cent pass rate.
Mr Emmanuel Klu, a Personal Secretary to the MP disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kadjebi in the Oti Region.
He said the BECE performance in the District had not been the best, hence the initiative by the MP to help improve it; adding that the MP had earlier organised a mock examination for the BECE candidates as part of his agenda to change the results this year.
Mr. Isaac Abavon, the Akan National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Secretary, urged the students to learn hard and pass successfully to justify the investment the MP had made on them.
Mr Abavon, who did the presentations on behalf of the MP, said the MP promised to award a full scholarship to any student who broke the existing record in the district.
He said they could only change the poor BECE performance, if students were ready to listen to advice and also ready to learn hard.
Mr. Abavo, who is also a Social Studies Teacher, said if people complained about falling standards of education, yet schoolchildren were not committed to their studies, parents were not committed to the needs of children and teachers found wanting in their approach to duty, then it was unjustifiable to put the blame on any individual or group.
Mr. John Ofori Abrokwa, the Headmaster of Kadjebi D/A JHS “A”, a beneficiary school; thanked the benefactor for the gesture.
He said “I was so much impressed because he [MP] was the same person who organised the mock examination for the BECE candidates”.
Mr. Ofori-Abrokwa said the items would help the students in their examination since most of the parents were unable to purchase the items for their wards.
Ms Gifty Akrasi-Adom, a beneficiary, expressed joy over the items and said they would learn hard to justify the investment made on them.
