021 Most Outstanding Teacher urges colleagues to focus on impactful teaching

Cape Coast- Mr. Ebenezer Kojo Otoo, the 2021 National Most Outstanding Teacher, has urged teachers to exhibit replicable teaching abilities because their good deeds would pay off eventually.

He said outmost dedication and commitment to the teaching profession were highly rewarding and there was the need for all teachers to remain focused, believing that they would be recognised someday.

“Be encouraged to do more even when you are not widely recognised, be versatile and ready to accept roles and professional challenges they would build you and make you a better version of yourself,” he stated.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Cape Coast, Mr Otoo said in the over 21 years of his teaching life, he had always opted to be exceptional but never excepted a reward.

Mr. Otoo, a native of Anomabo in the Central Region, urged teachers to file for nomination in this year’s Global Teacher Prize as applications were opened.

“Individual teachers can now nominate themselves comparative to the previous times where only their head teachers had the power to nominate, which teacher they thought was working.”

According to him, the Ministry of Education (MoE) through National Teaching Council and Ghana Education Service looked out for teachers who had made remarkable achievements with evidence.

On ways he could help to improve learning, he admonished donor agencies, individuals and corporate bodies to support him to complement government’s efforts in curbing Teenage Pregnancy through capacity building workshops for women and girls.

He said the improvement of adolescent clubs in schools and communities, provision of skills training programme for school dropouts and teenage mothers, provision of dignity kits to ensure care and support services, would be a good start-up to ensure that girls were groomed to be self-sufficient.

“The Ghana Most Outstanding Teacher” (GMOT) foundation also intends to adopt low performing schools across the Country as the Best Teachers Model Schools to enhance their performances,” he added.

To drive innovations and initiatives for holistic development in schools, he noted that the Foundation sought to establish more Physical and digital “Hall of Fame” activities for Schools, Colleges and Universities.

Mr. Otoo advocated for the creation of a Digital Mobile Library to address lack of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) services and libraries for students particularly in deprived communities to bridge the gap of accessibility.
