Mohammed Polo: Ghana is no more respected on the African continent

Former Hearts of Oak star, Mohammed Polo has lamented over how the Black Stars of Ghana are no more respected on the African continent.

Regarded as a giant on the continent due to their dominance before the 1990s, recent Black Stars teams have flattered to deceive and hence are unable to scare opponents.

According to ex-Ghana attacker Mohammed Polo, the team has lost respect because opponents know the Black Stars are beatable unlike in the past.

“To be frank, Ghana is not respected anymore on the continent. Some years back, other countries had great respect for our game but as we speak it is no more because they are able to score us with ease,” the ex-player now turned coach told Bryt FM in an interview.

Mohammed Polo continued, “During our time, countries on the continent especially the North Africans had to cheat before they can score u. It is about time we start organizing ourselves well. I can emphasize that North African countries are currently ruling the game on the continent.”

Ghana last won the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in 1982. Having secured qualification to the 2021 edition of the continental showpiece, the Black Stars will hope to lift the trophy to end a drought dating back to almost four decades.
