The Technical Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Bernhard Lippert has applauded the performance of defender Abdul Ismail Ganiyu in the Black Stars in the final two matches of the qualifiers to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The Asante Kotoko centre-back is one of several home-based players invited by Coach CK Akonnor for the matches against South Africa, as well as Sao Tome & Principe.
Featured in both matches, the defender excelled with his performance while playing alongside Nicholas Opoku in the heart of defense.
Speaking on the performance of the home-based players in the qualifiers, GFA Technical Director Bernhard Lippert has been full of praise for Abdul Ganiyu although he admits he is unable to assess the performance of other home-based players because they did not play more minutes.
“In the training, they showed a very good performance but today it’s not enough to trust them. I can assess Ganiyu, he made two very good matches but the other players it was on the 20 minutes and it’s not much time,” the German tactician said after the Sao Tome game.
Bernhard Lippert continued, “Talking about Awako, we know what can he do but we have to see him again and again on this level. Also, Sao Tome is not at the highest level for me so it’s difficult to assess a player. Give him more time, they are adopting very well in training so I think more players than Ganiyu will make the way to the first eleven in the squad.”
