Takoradi,– The active COVID-19 cases in the Western Region are on the decline, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said.
As of Tuesday, January 11, the active case count of the Region stood at 330 from the previous 440, indicating that the daily cases were steadily declining.
Madam Esther Samira Awudu-Issaka, Regional Public Relations Officer of the GHS, made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and said 258 of the cases were mild, 31 were moderate, one severe with no critical case recorded.
The Western Region before the Christmas festivities had only two COVID-19 active cases but saw a sharp increase in the number of cases shortly after the festivities.
The region has recorded two deaths and over 400 cases after the Christmas and new year festivities.
“Currently we are experiencing a gradual decline in cases thankfully and I want to ascribe it to the attention that has been turned to it from the start of the year,” the PRO said.
“People, I believe hearing of the alarming increase in cases and more so the media education, have realised COVID-19 is still not gone yet”, she added.
Touching on the vaccination exercise in the Region, Madam Awudu-Issaka said a total of 632,577 vaccines had so far been administered.
So far, she said 13.7 per cent of the Region’s population were fully vaccinated while 31.1 per cent had taken the first dose.
She encouraged the people in the Region to avail themselves of the vaccination and continue to adhere to the safety protocols to avoid further surges.
