‘Children Believe’ hands over school blocks to Namongbani and Tanjemili communities

Namongbani (NR) Sept, 13, GNA – ‘Children Believe’, formerly Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) has handed over refurbished Primary School and Early Childhood Centre (Kindergarten) classroom blocks at the cost of GH¢237,600.

00 to Namongbani and Tanjemili communities in Saboba District of Northern Region.

Madam Esenam Kavi De Souza Country Manager of Children Believe (CB) who handed over the classroom blocks said ensuring that children go to school and stayed to complete their education was key in their vision.

According to her, the decision to implement the projects stemmed from the appeal of the Namongbani and Tanjemili Communities and National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and Saboba District Assembly.

She said it was the responsibility of the state agency, NADMO and the local government to provide relief to communities in times of disaster as the situation was worsened by the fact that nine schools in the district were damaged by the rain storm.

She appealed to Ghana Education Service to ensure that the communities got teachers to teach in those schools and called on the chiefs, Parents Teachers Association and School Management Committee of the Schools to ensure that they planted trees around the school premises to serve as wind breaks.

She reminded them that they had ended their 15-year operation in Saboba District and would soon leave.

Mr. Haruna Abdulai, the Saboba District Coordinating Director who represented Mr. George Bingrini the Saboba District Chief Executive thanked them for the good work and partnership and urged the communities to plant trees around their homes to serve as wind breaks to avoid future disasters.

He said some of the schools in the district had no furniture and advised parents to have interest in their children’s education by providing them with materials like exercise books, pencils, pens and furniture.

Na Mumuni Alhassan Chief of Namongbani thanked CB for refurbishing their school.

Mr Joshua Takai Mahama, Assistant Director who represented Mrs. Janet Adua Saboba District Director of Education said GES would provide teachers, while government would also provide classroom blocks for the communities.

He said the Assembly was lacking resources to rehabilitate the schools because of inadequate funding.
