2021 Afcon: Defender Mohammed Salisu rejects Black Stars call up ahead of tournament – Reports

Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has rejected Ghana call up for the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon].

Ghana coach, Milovan Rajevac is expected to name his forty-man provisional squad today to kickstart preparation next week in Qatar.

Rajevac will then prune down his squad to twenty-eight for the AFCON in Cameroon from January 9 to February 6, 2021.

Salisu who has been a regular player for the Saints in the ongoing Premier League season was recently reported that the defender has been named in Ghana’s provisional squad for the tournament.

However, the former WAFA player has been in fine form this season with his electrifying performance has rejected the call-up, citing that he wants to continue with his development at the club.

Salisu was handed a call up under Kwesi Appiah and CK Akonnor but failed to show up respectively.

The technical team of the Black Stars are working to ensure the country win the 33rd edition of the tournament in Cameroon.

Ghana is in Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon and the Comoros Island.

The Black Stars will have three weeks of preparations in Doha where the team will play three friendlies before the team fly to Yauonda.
