Takoradi, Jan. 04, GNA – The youth and some people of Nzema descent have refuted reports that suggest that there is an overlord of the Nzemaland in the Western Region.
According to them, no chief had been gazetted as an overlord of the area, and condemned attempts to designate anyone as such.
“We, the youth and good people of Nzema descent, wish to state without fear or provocation that, we are fed up with this cheap chieftaincy publicity stunts. For us, our checks have shown that Nzema has no gazetted overload. They should prove it and we will follow suit.”
These were contained in a rejoinder to a publication carried by the Ghana News Agency, on Monday January 03, which inadvertently described one King Kaku Aka III as “the overlord of Nzema.”
“We want to put on record that we should go with the law to determine who is a gazetted chief or not. Going by the law, we know that Awulae Annor Adjaye and Awulae Amihere Kpanyili are duly gazetted chiefs from the National House of Chiefs,” the rejoinder said.
“We, the youth are somehow dumbfounded about the emergence of an unauthorised man parading himself as the overload of the prestigious Nzemaland,” it added.
The statement signed by P. Ekye Kwesie, acting spokesperson of Western Nzema Traditional Council, said there was absolute unity and peace in Nzemaland.
In the earlier story, Awulae Kaku Aka called for unity, peace among others in the area to foster development.
He also called for the employment of the youth by companies operating in the areas and the downsizing of the 20,000-acre land earmarked for the Petroleum hub to about 5,000 acres.
The youth, in their statement, however, appealed to the Ministry of Chieftaincy, National Security Minister, Regional Minister, Energy Minister and the Inspector General of Police to intervene in the matter, saying Nzema housed Ghana’s sensitive installation and the trend regarding overlord claims was uncalled for and unhelpful.
The youth assured the government of their full support for the petroleum hub project in the Jomoro Municipality.
“We, the youth are saying that there is growing despondency among the youth over the cheap chieftaincy issues and this should be thrown away,” the statement said.
“We want to be clear that the agenda of fighting against the proposed petroleum hub will not materialise,”it said, and added that the proposed 20000-acre land, earmarked for the petroleum hub project was not even large enough.
It, therefore, pleaded with the Board of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation and stakeholders to conglomerate all the needed lands in Nzemaland for the purpose.
The project would comprise industrial activities, residential, educational, transportation and other facilities, as well as protective buffer zones and a naval base.
“We plead with the President that Nzema has no Overload and there is unity among all the gazetted paramountcies,” they emphasised.
Meanwhile, the Ghana News Agency’s checks at the Western Regional House of Chiefs has revealed that King Kaku Aka III has not been gazetted at the House.
